This Ain't a Scene Sweater
The This Ain’t a Scene Sweater is a drop shoulder sweater, knit top down and in the round using stockinette. The sweater is cast on at the back of the neck, with increases being made for the shoulders. It is first knit down to the underarms, before being placed on a stitch holder. Then the front shoulders are each picked up from the back, knitted flat and joined at the neck, then knitted down to the underarms. The front and back are then joined and knitted in the round down to the hem. The sleeves are picked up from the body and knitted in the round, top-down.
It includes German Short Rows to shape the front shoulders and neckline. It is designed with a 3 inch positive ease for a casual and comfortable fit, and includes instructions for bust darts, if required, and an optional extended cuff with a thumb hole. The length of the body is designed to fall at your hips, but can be entirely determined by you, so you can knit it longer or shorter. The body is in the main colour, whilst the sleeves are in the second colour with thin stripes in the third colour. The hem, collar and cuffs are knit in 1 by 1 ribbing in the third colour, with an I-cord bind off between the drop shoulders and the sleeves to give a 3D effect separating the body and sleeves.
Normally you would pick your size based on your actual bust size, but for a better fit, I would suggest the following:
When choosing your pattern size, measure your upper bust; place the tape measure around your body at your under arms. Add 2 inches, and choose the pattern with that bust size. If this is smaller than your actual bust size, you will need to add bust darts to increase the bust to the correct fit. In the “Body” section of the pattern you will find a guide to adding bust darts to the body to allow for a more comfortable fit. This will allow the drop shoulder to fit your body as intended, whilst still comfortably fitting around the bust. Please be aware that if you do add bust darts, you will need slightly more yarn for Colour A than specified in the pattern.
The pattern is suitable for a confident beginner, and includes links to tutorials for each technique used.
